The

Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology

(BSPA) regulates the performance of approximately 4,000 Audiologists, Speech-Language Pathologists and Speech-Language Pathology Assistants. The Board issues licenses, promulgates rules, monitors continuing education, investigates complaints, issues civil penalties for violations, and may revoke or impose disciplinary action on a license holder or their practice. The Board is comprised of eight volunteer members: two speech-language pathologists, two audiologists, one licensed otolaryngologist, one speech-language pathology assistant, and two public members. Each member is committed to safeguarding the public health, the safety and wellbeing of Oregonians.

As the Investigator for BSPA, you will support the agency’s regulatory and compliance function by investigating suspected violations of Oregon statute and administrative rules and reviewing the background of licensure applicants prior to their approval by the Board. The Investigator conducts criminal background checks of applicants, responds to public and board-initiated complaints by conducting thorough investigations; provides information and technical assistance, and otherwise promotes and enforces compliance with regulations that have been adopted by the legislature and Board to protect the public health, safety and welfare of Oregonians.

What We Are Looking For

Minimum Qualifications:

Two years of recent (within the last five years) investigative experience which included gathering facts, collecting evidence, examining records, and conducting interviews to verify or disprove claims of suspected law violations.

Note: College-level courses in law enforcement, criminal justice, law, accounting, auditing, or a closely related field may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for up to one year of the required experience.

  • Exceptional communication skills (verbal and in writing) with the proven ability to present information clearly, logically and persuasively.

  • Demonstrated time management and organization skills with the ability to track multiple activities and ensure work completion with high attention to detail, filing and records management.

  • Proven skill and experience partnering with specialized professionals who are experts in their respective field.

  • Thorough technical and operational background of principles and familiarity with:

    • Conducting interviews and processing complaints

    • Identifying issues, preparing and implementing plans of action, and making recommendations

    • Sourcing and compiling data and evidence; Analyzing and interpreting results of findings

    • Government and administrative laws

    • Communicating findings and results through formal presentation of technical reports

    • Oregon Revised Statutes, Oregon Administrative Rules and Board policies; principles and practices of public administration (i.e. maintaining public records and confidential information)

Preference Statement:

Preference may be given to candidates with investigative experience in the medical field, education and/or government regulation.
