Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Director of Communications to join our team on a temporary contract basis in Arlington, VA. This role offers the opportunity to lead and shape communications strategy while working closely with leadership to drive the organization's mission forward.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership: Craft and execute a comprehensive communications strategy that aligns with organizational goals.
Media Relations: Serve as the primary media contact, managing relationships and preparing leadership for media engagements.
Content Creation: Oversee the development of high-quality content, including press releases, articles, social media posts, and more.
Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and manage a talented team of communications professionals, including a Social Media Manager.
Stakeholder Engagement: Build strong relationships with key stakeholders, including members, policymakers, and media outlets.
Campaign Management: Plan and implement legislative campaigns and other strategic initiatives.
Brand Management: Protect and enhance the organization's brand and reputation.
Qualifications:

8+ years of experience in strategic communications, marketing, or legislative campaigns.
Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, or a related field.
Deep understanding of the news media industry and nonprofit organizations.
Exceptional writing, editing, and content creation skills.
Proven leadership and team management experience.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and G Suite.
